The dry gas seal support system for compressors (gas panel) supplies clean, dry gas at the correct pressure and flow rate to the dry gas seal, while monitoring the seal's condition. The quality of the supplied gas largely determines the reliability of the dry gas seal.
The gas film between the two seal faces is only a few micrometers thick, so even dust particles or liquid droplets can damage the seal. The support system ensures that the supplied gas is always clean, dry, and at a higher pressure than the seal chamber.
An increase in differential pressure across the filter indicates a dirty filter. An abnormal increase in the primary seal's gas vent flow rate warns of seal face wear. These signals should be sent to the control system for early warning and safe shutdown.
When the gas expands through the regulator, the temperature decreases, and heavy hydrocarbons may condense. The solution is to heat the supplied gas, insulate the piping, and choose a suitable gas tapping point.
The design usually references API 692 and API 617. Please refer to the current edition when preparing technical specifications.
