Sealing Components

Sealing components include details used to manufacture, repair and replace mechanical seals such as seal faces, bellows, springs, O-rings and metal parts. The quality of each part directly affects the sealing and lifespan of the entire seal.

Main component groups

  • Seal faces: dynamic and static rings made of carbon, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide or ceramic.
  • Elastic gaskets: O-rings, V-rings, wedge gaskets made of NBR, EPDM, FKM, FFKM or PTFE.
  • Springs and bellows: create pressure between the two seal faces, made of stainless steel or corrosion-resistant alloys.
  • Metal parts: shaft sleeves, gaskets, bolts, seal caps and seal bodies.

Role of each part

The seal face pair creates the main liquid film seal. Gaskets seal the auxiliary gaps between the seal and the shaft and pump body. Springs or bellows maintain stable pressure when the shaft moves or the seal face wears. Just one incompatible part can cause the entire seal to fail prematurely.

Machining requirements

Seal faces require very high flatness, usually measured in a few light bands, and uniform surface roughness. Gaskets need correct size, hardness and material. The tolerance of metal parts affects the concentricity and stability during rotation.

When to replace components

  • Seal faces are worn, cracked, scratched or show signs of burning.
  • Gaskets are hard, cracked, swollen or have lost elasticity.
  • Springs or bellows are fatigued, broken or corroded.
  • After each disassembly inspection as recommended by the manufacturer.

How to choose replacement components

Compare the seal code, size and original material with the drawing. Choose materials based on the medium, temperature and pressure, not just size. For important seals, use components from the manufacturer or components with clear quality certification.

Applications

Maintenance and repair of seals in factories, mechanical workshops and pump service units.
